Open Access Technology International (OATI) is an energy pioneer and leader, providing software and services that are the standard in the energy industry. They can be viewed as a “quiet giant” – known in the industry, but without great effort toward marketing and advertising. They first approached me in 2009 when they decided to change tactics and put a face and voice to their company through videos that would play on their website and at their annual customer meeting for hundreds of attendees. I’ve returned several times over the years to make videos for them that were similar but also showed the massive leap forward they’ve made by building North America’s most advance energy data center right here in Minneapolis. Our work approach called for me to collaborate with OATI employees in drafting a very exact script and shot list. A looser documentary approach wouldn’t work with material that can quickly become technologically confusing. Through careful planning, we’ve created several videos that convey the subject matter in a clear and visually compelling style while maintaining a friendly, approachable feel, always using OATI team members to speak for their company rather than using actors.
